How to Pray Eid ul Fitr (Hanafi)

Eid ul Fitr prayer — 2 Wajib Rakats with 6 extra Takbeers — prayed in congregation after sunrise.

School: Hanafi Shafi'i Maliki Hanbali

Eid ul Fitr prayer is Wajib in the Hanafi school. It is prayed in congregation — ideally outdoors — on the morning of Eid after sunrise. In Hanafi, there are 3 extra Takbeers in the first Rakat (before Fatihah) and 3 extra Takbeers in the second Rakat (after the Surah, before Ruku). The Imam delivers the Eid Khutbah after the prayer.

Step 1

Niyyah (Intention)

Make the intention in your heart. It is not necessary to say it aloud.

I intend to pray 2 Wajib rakats of Eid ul Fitr, with 3 extra Takbeers, for the sake of Allah, facing the Qiblah.
Step 2

Takbeer-e-Tahreema

Raise both hands up to your earlobes, palms facing the Qiblah, then place right hand over left hand below the navel.

Step 3

Thana (Sana)

Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdika wa tabarakasmuka wa ta'ala jadduka wa la ilaha ghairuk

Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise. Blessed is Your name and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god but You.
